3ds max gun panel tutorial

make a cilynder then stretch it down from halfway mark. give it about four lines across. turn to editable poly then select and loop those four lines. then chamfer to make extra lines close together. then to select all the polygons in between those lines so that you can extrude them.... select wide spots on whole things because they are bigger and easier to select.... then you just invert selection then the polygons between the lines will be selected. then you extrude those polygons just a little then you switch to the scale tool to pull them towards the center of the whole object.... giveing your desired effect.
To move and scale these lines on the surface... switch to vertices then select all the vertices of lines then select your scale tool... then scale and move to desired size and position
To cut out square hole in object.... make more lines going down object to the desired width then add two more lines horizontally, which will give you your square..... select polygon option then select square and delete it.. so you basically have square hole in your object.
Now add shell modifier in modifier list. I set it to 10 inner thickness on this model
Then add Smooth in modifier list and select auto smooth check box
In the video he added quad chamfer in the modifier list. I don't have this option on 3ds max 7
he deleted some of the faces on the sides and pulled the shell modifier in and out and it gave somemore line detail. I don't know if I can do that.
I selected all the edges in the arch on top except for the last and bottom line. then I hit the dettach botton and a box appeared and I selected Dettach to element. and that put a nice line at the start of the arch.
Another way to get good lines is to select any edge (prefferably looped) andright click and hit split.
